Springtime news.

Spring is springing up everywhere,

from the Daffodils and Crocus springing out of the ground to the blossoms once again filling the trees and hedgerows bringing some beautiful colours to our playtime and walks. This is a great time of year to get motivated and go out for some good long walks, especially now as the evenings become lighter for longer. I have been noticing a steady increase of people and dogs at my local dog beach which is great, both for the people and the dogs!
I’ve had a busy year so far with my ever-growing puppy Tazi and my pet portraits, a great start to 2012, and I’d love to see more of your photos coming my way this spring. I’ve also been working hard on some other artistic projects and renovating our camper ready for some fun camping adventures this summer with Tazi. I’m sure this is going to be a pretty exciting year.
If you would like to find out more about my paintings, check out my website or email me. I’ll be very happy to answer any questions you might have and you can see some great examples of portraits I’ve been working on.

Portrait of the Month

Tuppy.
Check out this portrait of Tuppy, a beautiful King Charles Spaniel with two hearts (see the heart shaped patch on top of his head). I was so touched by Tuppy’s story he just had to be my portrait of the month. Here he is sitting on his stool in the kitchen where he would always keep an eye on what was going on. What a wonderful dog.

Kitten Caboodle

It’s time for a deal on cat and kitten portraits. Whether your feline friend is a tiny little naughty kitten or a great noble lion (or thinks they are), honour their status in your household with their very own portrait. The Ancient Egyptians would do it!
And until May 1st, you can worship your cat for less with a 20% discount on all feline portraits. Purrrrr!

Deadly Daffs

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Though beautiful to look at, Daffodils can be deadly poisonous to dogs. Keep vigilant as to what your dog is eating on your springtime walks as ingesting any parts, even drinking the water they stand in, and especially the bulbs can be poisonous to dogs. If you suspect your dog has eaten daffodils contact your vet immediatly for advice. Keep safe this spring.

Happy New Year!
I hope your 2012 will be a happy and prosperous one.
I was so busy over the holiday season with a variety of pet portraits, it was so much fun, especially seeing the reaction of those who recieved them as christmas gifts.
Now it is the first slightly snowy day of 2012 and I finally have a little time to relax and write my newsletter.
I had an absolutely fabulous christmas, especially as it was our Puppy Tazi’s first ever one. Needless to say she was a little spoiled what with all the eating and the treats and various gifts. She even had a gift sent from my sister all the way from england, lucky girl.
But now the holidays are over for another year and its time to think ahead of things to come which is my favourite part of the new year. A very inspiring time to get yourself together and put plans into action!
So here’s to another inspirational year, lets get out there and make things happen!

Portrait of the month
With so many fun and exciting portraits to choose from this month it was a difficult choice but when it came to the crunch I just had to go for Penny and Piper, two scottish terriers with a lot of personality. What characters!

A wonderful reaction!
Thank you Laura for this wonderful reaction to your portrait!
“Her portrayal of Nipper was based off a photo of mine Jason & Sophie must have given her and… wow. It’s always the eyes, you know? It’s like he’s looking back at me right now. I miss him so much. Her painting is so life-like it’s hard not to imagine him right here with me. She captured his essence perfectly with more depth and personality than any photo could have. I can’t wait to get the portrait framed so I can hang it on my wall and see my baby every day. Thank you Vicky.”

Pretty In Pink
Well, it’s that time of year again! Only a month until Valentines Day, the pinkest day of the year! And to celebrate pink hearts and fluffy pink fluff I’ve decided to have a special Valentines offer on my pet portraits. Order a portrait between now and valentines day and you’ll recieve a 20% discount on the final price, however, in order to get this special offer you must choose to have either a pink, red or lavender background! What better gift for the one you love and it will always remind them of this special fuzzy pink day day!

Autumn Newsletter

I woke up this morning and saw the first new dusting of snow on the mountains. Hard to believe that winter is just around the corner and there is only two months until Christmas. Time to make the most of these beautiful crisp autumn days. We have been visiting the dog beach almost everyday while the light still allows and Tazi just loves all the crunchy fall leaves on the ground.

So before the evenings get too dark and damp, get snapping some great pet photo’s all ready for your Christmas Pet Portrait. This is the perfect time to order with plenty of time left before Christmas to have your portrait completed. Remember, just like Santa, this is my busiest time of the year so the earlier you order the better!

Jerry

This month I decided to put together a series of photo’s showing the progress of one of my pet portraits (above). This is a portrait of Jerry – an absolutely awesome dog – and his portrait will be hanging in the room of his new baby brother or sister when he/she is born next month. For sure Jerry won’t be having any jealousy issues with this larger than life portrait hanging above the crib.
This portrait was made up of three seperate photographs of Jerry – all put together to create a perfect representation of his fantastic and friendly personality.

Ocean Roots

Did you know that in addition to painting pet portraits, Vicky also paints conservation minded ocean art. Here is a painting of sea otters called ‘another voiceless raft of eyes’ which is Vicky’s latest painting that was recently on display at the Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference in downtown Vancouver. Vicky is always happy to take commissions if you have an idea for an ocean painting you would like and you can see more of her work at oceanroots.org.

Tazi

Little Tazi, our Australian Shepherd puppy, is growing up so fast. She’s becoming a real character and has even tried out her grown-up bark a couple of times!
Her favourite place is Kitsilano Dog Beach where you can see her most days.
She was not a big fan of the Halloween fireworks at all! We didn’t even have to encourage her in from the garden – very unusual!! She did enjoy the trick or treaters costumes though – even if she didn’t really understand what was going on!!

Spring Newsletter

It’s puppy season! I just love it when the sun comes out and all the new puppies come out to play. On the beach, in the park, or just anywhere – anytime. How glorious it must be to put 100% into having maximum fun every second you’re awake. There’s nothing better than watching a puppy off leash, almost overwhelmed by everything they have to check out and sniff and roll in. Beautiful.
We can all use a couple of puppy minutes each day in our busy lives – a moment to take in the world and breathe that fresh spring air, or lie in the warm grass, or explore something completely new.
I’m celebrating springtime puppies this month by offering a 25%  discount on any puppy pet portrait you purchase before May 31st. So if you have a new puppy, or know someone who has, send me an email with your photo’s and capture your new best friend’s youth in a beautiful painting that will last forever.
This only lasts until May 31st so hurry to take advantage of this special offer.
Pet Portrait Of The Month:

Newsletter: March 2011

Hip hip hooray. Spring is just around the corner and we’ve almost made it through another winter season. Despite snowfall last week, i’m still seeing the first signs of spring as crocuses are popping up all over the ground and the cherry blossoms are set to bloom across the city.
With easter coming up this is a great time to order a portrait of your fabulous pet – either for yourself or as a gift for a friend or loved one. And for this month only I am offering 20% off on all 12×12 size portraits – that’s $40 off! So order now to take advantage of this discount before March 31st.
Vicky’s Pet Portraits will be making a first appearance at the Blim Community Market this month on the 27th at The Heritage Hall on Main Street. This is a really great sunday market with a huge variety of vendors so come on over and check it out. I will be there between 12pm until 5pm and would love for you to come say hi! There will also be a chance to win a free pet portrait as well as other prizes do don’t miss out.

In other news – I am taking part, for the next two months, in an art exhibition called Under The Blue Horizon. This is going to be a great show run by The Wake Project who aim to bring more awareness to the public regarding ocean conservation issues – in particular those involving the declining shark population. This is a great chance to see some of my other artwork on display and meet some wonderful people as well as see ocean themed artwork from other Vancouver artists. The show is at The Rhizome Cafe at 317 E. Broadway and runs from March 22nd until May 22nd with a very special event on April 7th. I’m very excited and honoured to be taking part in this and I hope you will join me in a celebration of our oceans.

To visit Wake on the website go to: www.wakeproject.net

My pet portrait of the month for February definately goes to Finnegan. He looks to have been such a loving dog to all who knew him and i’m sure he is greatly missed.

In the meantime – enjoy March and it’s crazy weather – in like a lion , out like a lamb I think the saying goes. Look forward to hearing from you and remember to forward this newsletter on to your friends if you think they may be interested.

Vicky.

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around!

Yep, it’s that time of year again – romance, love, secret admirers and of course more flowers and chocolates – just like last year!

But wait – you don’t have to get the same old valentines chocolates for the one you love – here’s a really original gift that will last forever, have real sentimental value and won’t pile on the calories.

Of course i’m talking about one of my hand painted, original pet portraits. They make the perfect valentine gift for anyone with a pet they just adore. You could even go for a romantic red or hot pink background colour that will outlast even the reddest rose!

With love in mind, check out these two playful horses I got to paint last month – they make the perfect couple!

This painting took the position of the largest portrait I have ever painted at an enormous 6 foot by 4 foot. It will make for a stunning art piece on it’s new owners wall

I was very busy these last few weeks working on a new pet portrait display for Nancy at Barktholomews.

Barktholomews is a really fantastic store on 33rd and MacKenzie selling all kinds of tasty pet treats and food as well as many toys and accessories. Come and chat to Nancy about all things pet and she will share with you her wealth of knowledge and can answer many of your questions regarding pet nutrition and exercise. Being a dog owner herself she truely understands animals and their owners and i’m so happy to be able to display my work in her store.

I was also very happy to be featured in a local ‘dog-blog’ written by portrait model Finn the bulldog.

Finn is such a character and wonderful to paint – I even got a special chance to meet the star himself. You can follow his life and adventures at http://finn-thedogblog.blogspot.com/

I hope you have a very special and happy valentines day – don’t forget to give your pet a loving hug and valentine treat!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The evenings getting darker and every window is twinkling with beautiful Christmas lights. We already had a sprinkling of snow which makes me hopeful for a snowy white Christmas.

I just want to wish you all the best for the season and good luck in the new year.

Many thanks to everyone who gave me the priviledge of painting their pet portrait this year. I’ve had the opportunity to paint many wonderful cats and dogs, and meet their owners. It’s so great to meet so many people who love and care so much for the animals who share their lives.

This month, just in time for Christmas I was lucky enough to be invited to display a selection of my pet portraits in Wagababa Pet Shop at 88 Keefer Place (across from the Tinseltown Mall). This is a fabulous store for puppies and kitties, young and old, specializing in everything pet related, from designer apparel and accessories, to natural and organic food and treats. Dearest Pet Owners.

It’s 6 weeks until Christmas and time to get organised. So many gifts to find, cards to write and food to think about, and don’t forget the cookies & milk for Santa.
A Pet Portrait makes a really fun, original and personal gift for that family member or friend who just loves their pet and it’s as easy as 1-2-3.
1. Email me a photo of the pet you would like painted
2. Choose a size & background colour
3. Pick up the portrait when it’s complete (payment is due upon completion).

I will always email you a photograph of the portrait before you pick up to make sure you are 100% happy with the finished product.
Each portrait takes about 2 weeks to complete so now is an ideal time to send me your photos to get your Pet Portrait before Christmas.
If you do leave it a little late however don’t panic, I do also provide gift certificates that can be made out to any value you like and are valid for one year. You even get to pick from 5 different designs. That takes a little stress from your Christmas list!

Featured Pet Of The Month: Daisy
